Le Huitieme Jour

Hier, nous avons eu un jour très occupé. Le matin, les étudiants du Lycée Laénnec nous ont fait une visite guidée de la ville de Pont-l'Abbé. Pendant le tour, nous avons visité beaucoup de choses. Nous avons vu par exemple l'église Notre-Dame des Carmes. L'église a été construite pendant les XV et XVI siècles. Aussi, nous avons visité la statue "aux bigoudens" qui montrait un groupe de femmes qui sont en deuil pour un homme dans leur famille. Enfin, nous avons vu la chapelle St Jacques de Lambour. Cette chapelle est très vieille, construite en 1260 et le clocher a été détruite au XVIIème siècle à cause d'une révolution en Bretagne. La tour a été décapitée pour punir les habitants qui ne voulaient pas payer les nouveaux impôts sur les timbres.

Après notre visite à Pont-l'Abbé, nous sommes allés à Concarneau. Concarneau est une ville sur la côte Atlantique & c'est une ville de pêcheurs. Pendant notre visite, nous avons visité la ville close. La ville close a été construite pendant le XIVème siècle. La ville close était comme un château construit avec beaucoup de granite. Même s'il y avait beaucoup de travaux, c'était une très bonne visite dans la vieille ville close. Après Concarneau, nous avons visité la ville de Pont-Aven. Nous avons fait un tour avec les étudiants français. Nous avons vu la rivière et beaucoup de moulins à eau. La visite était très intéressante et la ville était très belle. Gauguin, un peintre fameux, a passé du temps à Pont-Aven et il y a fait beaucoup de tableaux pendant ce temps. Aujourd'hui était une très bonne journée et nous avons appris beaucoup de choses!

Yesterday, we had a very busy day. In the morning, the students from the Lycée Laennec gave us a tour of the city of Pont-l'Abbé. During the tour, we visited many places: we saw the church, Notre-Dame des Carmes. The church was constructed during the 15th and 16th centuries. We also visited the statue "Aux Bigoudens" which shows a group of women who are in mourning for a man in their family. Finally, we saw the chapel of St Jacques de Lambour. The chapel is very old, constructed in 1260. The bell tower was destroyed in the 17th century because of a revolution in Brittany. The bell tower was decapitated to signify that the inhabitants of the area had refused to pay a new tax on stamps. 

After our visit to Pont-l'Abbé, we went to Concarneau. Concarneau is a city on the Atlantic ocean and it is a city of fishermen. During our visit, we visited the Closed City constructed during the 14th century. The city resembled a big castle and was constructed of mostly granit. Even though there was a lot of construction during our visit, it was very fun to see the old closed city. At the city of Pont-Aven, after Concarneau, we went on a tour with the French students. We saw the river of the city and a lot of water mills. The tour was very interesting and the city was very pretty. Gauguin, a famous painter, spent time in Pont-Aven and he made a lot of famous paintings during this time. The day today was very good and we learned a lot of things!
