Aujourd'hui était notre premier jour à Bayonne au Pays Basque. Ce matin était libre pour explorer la ville, pendant que certains allaient à la messe et d'autres à Biarritz, la ville sur la côte Atlantique. Nous avons eu une brève orientation dans la ville avec Mme Feat. Nous avons vu la cathédrale et nous avons appris sur trois périodes des remparts de la ville - romains, médiévaux et du XVIIè et XVIIIè siècles. Nous devions passer la soirée à un concert de Mozart donné par un pianiste et une violoniste au conservatoire. Après des mauvaises directions et plusieurs appels sans réponse au conservatoire - la femme de l'accueil nous a dit plus tard "Je ne réponds pas au téléphone" - nous avons trouvé notre chemin et nous avons entendu la dernière moitié du concert. C'était beau!
Today was our first day in Bayonne in the Basque country. The morning was free to explore the town and neighboring city of Biarritz, the city on the Atlantic coast while some people went to church. We then took a brief tour of the city, led by Mme Feat. We stopped by the cathedral and learned about the three periods of the walled city - Roman, Middle Ages, and more recent updates in the 17th and 18th centuries. Our evening was to be spent at a Mozart concert given by a pianist and a violonist at the conservatory. After a bit of confusion on the directions and several unanswered calls to the conservatory (the woman later told us, "I don't answer the phone".) we found our way and heard the last half of the concert. It was beautiful and worth the walk!
